The MA program at Georgetown is what really kickstarted my international career. Jim’s leadership and direction were so instrumental in guiding that path. Subsequently, in my role at State, as a TESOL board member and as an active TESOLer attending TESOL conferences in so many different countries, I could see what an incredible impact he had on the lives of so many educators. His vision of TESOL responded to a need worldwide.

Young teachers from rural Cambodia came to LaoTESOL and were inspired to return and provide students with language tools that would change their lives; Brazilians came to Sao Paulo for BRAZTESOL and found an exposition of the latest teaching books and materials. It just goes on and on.

And as Jodi mentioned below, the proudest moment for me came accepting the Alatis award with Jim and Penny in the audience. His leadership in what became a truly global forum will be sorely missed.
