To this man, I owe much. Dean James E. Alatis inspired me to study linguistics at Georgetown University as a freshman, he encouraged me to continue in my graduate studies and nominated me for the Title VII federal fellowship for my masters and doctorate degrees. His optimism and cheer were never-ending.
Rest in peace, mi patrinus academicus, thank you, and I hope my work lives up to the legacy you left us. My thoughts are with his family and please know that you do not grieve alone.
