I have so many wonderful memories of Jim going back to the early days of TESOL and the Georgetown School of Languages and Linguistics, which Jim, led, through many TESOL and WATESOL conventions, and the founding of the TESOL International Research Foundation, which Jim was such an important part of. He was always there to lead and help so many people.
Perhaps one of the proudest days of my life was when I was given the James E. Alatis Award from TESOL, with Jim and Penny in the audience.
Jim will be sorely missed, but his works and his legacy will live on. My sympathy to Penny and his wonderful family.
